We are going to be covering recent thoughts on the atom next week. Your homework for the coming week is to do the following…

1. Visit this site - http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html
2. Watch a few segments of this awesome program and pick the one that seems the most interesting to you.
3. Take notes on the segment… (1) what is it about? (2) what are the main points (3) what are the main vocabulary words (4) how does the segment connect with anything we’ve studied this year?
4. Prepare to make an oral presentation of about 3-5 mins to the class about the segment you watched on Thursday or Friday.
5. Make your presentation to the class on Thursday or Friday.

This is worth a possible 50 points.

You will be graded on the following:

- Did you take adequate notes on the segment? (10 points)
- Did you adequately prepare an oral presentation for the class (typed out with points to make including highlights of your segment? (10 points)
- Does your oral presentation reach at least 3 mins and cover the key points of the segment, include any vocabulary you had to look up from the segment and connect with what we’ve been studying? (30 points)

You have the entire week to prepare for this and presentations will start on Thursday in class. We will not have time in class to work on this assignment (hence, the name “homework”). If you do not have a computer at home or if you cannot watch the video from your computer at home, I suggest (as always) using the computers in the Computer Lab, the Library, a friend’s house or the Public Library (Richland has a great public library).

Prepare early and don’t wait until the last minute!
