Anna returned to Charlotte on Friday afternoon to pick up Sylvia from the Vet Surgeon. Sylvia had her right arm (the one with the large tumor) removed, along with the scapula (shoulder bone) and part of her clavicle (collar bone) in order to stop the spread of her cancer. She also had a tumor on her left paw removed.
Needless to say, she wasn't feeling like a million bucks Friday night. The following pictures are from Anna's camera phone on the car ride back from the Vet, so please excuse the poor quality. Also, the images are somewhat rough… view at your own discretion. They are painful to look at, but we're confident that removing the leg was for her best and not just our emotional selfishness.

Anna spent most of the night Friday on the floor with Sylvia in Donnie's house, trying to keep her company. She seemed to still be dazed from the surgery and the loss of a limb, and whined and cried the entire night. Huskies are a very vocal creature by their nature, so you can imagine some of the pathetic noises she was making. For anyone familiar with her "woooo's," think of the exact opposite. We likened the noise to Chewbacca when he finds Han has been frozen in carbonite by Darth Vader.
Later on Saturday, she started getting up on her own a little at a time. She even ventured outside a few times! Here's a pic of her in Donnie's monkey grass outside…

She loves being outside, even in the heat. Today (Sunday), her spirits seem to be higher and she is crying much less. She still wants attention and has been eating a small amount. We're hoping the daily progress will continue to improve so that she will be back to her old Wookie self by the end of the Summer.

What an experience! Anna has been incredible during all of this, and her unending devotion, attention and love to Sylvia won't go unrewarded by the furry one. Today, Sylvia is resting comfortably and looking forward to the Asheville move next week!
