fruittree.jpgYesterday, Anna and I attended closing for the new house in Asheville. I can't believe it's all happening so quickly! It's a cliche, but it seems just yesterday we were unpacking and organizing the house here in Columbia. Now we are deconstructing our possessions and our lives for the move to the mountains.

The closing went incredibly well and my Dad and Avant made the trip to Asheville with us yesterday (after I finished proctoring the Math and English exams at Hammond) and unpacked things such as the fridge, beds and large items while we went to the lawyer's office for closing.

Dad left and then Anna and I unpacked a few items and made some quick guestimations on the many improvements, overhauls and fixes that we HAVE to make SOON in order to be happy. There is so much to do in the house, but I'm hopeful we'll have the place in presentable shape (by our high standards… it's perfectly fine now, but we want it perfect asap) by the end of the summer. I have to find a part time job somewhere, but I'm sure the summer will be completely filled by small and large fix jobs.

Immediately on our plate is deciding between the kitchen redo, the basement overhaul or coming to terms with the infamous blue tile. I'll keep you updated on the status of our decisions on these large projects. And there are small things to decide as well… things to be rewired, baseboards to be replaced, gallons of paint to be applied, and so on and so on. Fortunately, the yard is completely beautiful and will require very little, if any, effort. I'm so grateful to finally have established grass and trees! It will be nice to have a house where the yard (in the beautiful Asheville weather) will be the refuge.

We met a few neighbors (who all seem incredibly welcoming) and Anna's brother Andy stopped by. I had to leave to get home back to Columbia for today's exams, so Andy took Anna TV shopping. I hear the cable guys are there now, so we should have no interruption in our LOST and HOUSE watching.

Tomorrow brings the official bid day of the move… the moving truck and moving men are coming to carry all of our things up the mountain. That will be a sad event as this little house on Rockwood has protected us in times of trouble, storms and sheltered us through our young twenties as we dealt with health problems, job frustrations and doggie issues (tylenol, amputations, surgeries). I will really miss this place. I feel like I've personally invested myself in this house, especially this deck and yard … I will never attempt to plant another poplar tree!. All things must pass, but it is still tear jerking for me.

Unfortunately I didn't take any pics (I'm sure I will this week) but you can always check my flickr account for your visual needs. More updates to come soon…
