Disqus Amongst Ourselves

Way back in late ’07, I heard about a new commenting system called Disqus, so I decided to give it a try on CostPerNews. I quickly fell in love.

This past month with a new version out, it looks like Disqus is going supernova (at least within the little crowd of bloggers that I run with). Vlad the SageBlogger has started using Disqus and Scott Jangro has offered up an incredibly useful comparison post of Disqus, SezWho and IntenseDebate…

Evaluating Blog Comment Systems | Jangro.com: “Disqus is also very well done and the on-blog comments, hosted by the Disqus service, are well-integrated and look very nice. Customization is possible with CSS. Threaded discussions, avatars, ratings etc. are handled nicely by Disqus.”

For the time being, Scott and I are both giddy as we play around with some of the features that are made possible for community growth and enhancement because of Twitter.

Nevertheless, I’m using Disqus here as well for the foreseeable future. So, give the new commenting system here a go and let me know your thoughts or what you’d like to see the service do (or not do).

Enjoy!

Disqus is pretty sweet, Sam, and you've definitely made a good choice in using it. I've got a blog launching in the next month or so that will probably use Disqus.

I wish I'd had Disqus when I started blogging in '04. The hours of frustration with spam and trying to think of a way to increase community would have been saved!

Totally agree. They seem to have taken the best aspects of all commenting systems and put them in one package.

i think the best part is being able to reply from email like I'm doing
    now :)

Oh, I did not know this was possible! I'm trying it now…hopefully I don't
    break your blog.

I didn't know that was possible. How do you do it? I replied to the notification Disqus sent me, but the comment didn't post.

Haha, nevermind — looks like it actually worked.

        You’re not kidding Sam.

Though I do think maybe we weren’t ready for this even a year or two ago. It’s a pretty radical shift.

And “giddy” is the perfect word. I was like a little schoolgirl.

    Sam,

To be honest the first time I saw it on your blog, I was a little turned off. But I can clearly see why you felt in love with it…. I only installed it this morning, but am already love it. The feature that allows you to reply to comments is the best thing so far.

I just hope it will stay clean from spam monkeys.

How come your styles are so nice and clean??? I ma getting jealous. Any help to integrate it nicer into my team would be appreciated.

I'm considering throwing it up on trishalyn.com or maybe trying it out on my other site that's more for fun first. I don't see any downsides but I only see a few obvious upsides too.
