I’m a huge Willie Nelson fan.

I even got to meet him in Wilkes-Barre, PA at a fan-club (yes, I’m in the Willie Nelson Fan Club) meetup after a great show back in 2002. He signed my boot. He also offered to sign my dog, but that’s for another post.

All that to say, I’ve heard just about everything Willie has put down and I’ve often fantasized about doing a cover record of my favorites (or performing them with my now-defunct college band, Pray for Mojo).

Phosphorescent has put together a cover album of an interesting selection of Willie songs and it absolutely blows me away with every listen. Not only is the music and delivery worthy of the material, but the song selection is tremendous because it’s not a “greatest hits” package.

I’ve often said Willie’s greatest songs are the ones you never hear (as with most artists). In this case, Phosphorescent nails it.
