My formula is this…
Fantastic paragraph from a fantastic post:
TeachPaperless: What are we preparing them for?: “And so, I prepare my students to be critical thinkers. I prepare them to be able to handle abstract concepts and open-ended questioning. I try my darndest to prepare them for the challenges that lie ahead no matter what. “
That’s what I’m trying to do. We have to have a generation of critical thinkers to comprehend and survive the future ahead of us.
We are not only shifting (rapidly) to a more tech-driven society where communication happens in bits, but we are also faced with a geo-political shift away from nation-states and towards boundary breaking religio-states as well as a banal form of corportatism in the Northern Hemisphere. These two inevitable political forces will shape the 21st century.
I’m printing that out and putting it up on my office door at school and in my email sig to parents.
