My Philosophy on Homework

John Spencer fills in the puzzle piece I was missing from my own anti-homework stance:

Spencer’s Scratch Pad: Rethinking Homework: “ I don’t grade homework.  I don’t make it mandatory.  My students know all of this.  However, I believe that learning should continue throughout the day.  When I cut off homework and the notion of homework, what I am really doing is creating a false dichotomy between school life and real life.  I want a bridge between the two.”

I need to set aside time in class each week for students to do these type of “homework” self-assignments that extend learning beyond my own vision.

I said as much almost a year ago but now it’s time to carve out that space.

Can’t wait to see how this works… thanks, John.
